Treat Common Cold with Home Remedies

A common cold is an inflammation of the upper respiratory tract . This is due to an infection caused by the common cold viruses. It’s called common because its frequency of occurring in an individual is higher than any other disease. Common cold is very troublesome as it zaps a person completely of their energy leaving them completely drained off. Here are some home remedies which provide a soothing effect and help reduce the intensity of the cold.

  • Common Cold using Lemon:

    Lemon is an efficient home remedy for common cold. Vitamin C-rich lemon juice increases body resistance, decreases toxicity and reduces the duration of the illness.

  • Common Cold treatment using Garlic:

    Garlic soup is an old remedy to reduce the severity of a cold, and should be taken once daily. The oil contained in this vegetable helps to open up the respiratory passages. In soup form, it helps flush out all toxins from the system.

  • Common Cold treatment using Lady’s Finger:

    This vegetable is rich in mucilage and acts as a drug to allay irritation, swelling, and pain. It helps in treating irritation of the throat and a persistent dry cough.

  • Common Cold treatment using Bitter Gourd:

    A teaspoon of the root paste, mixed with an equal quantity of honey or tulsi leaf juice, taken once a day, for a month acts as an excellent medicine for colds.

  • Common Cold using Turmeric:

    Half a spoon of turmeric taken with hot milk acts an effective remedy for colds and throat irritations. In case of a running cold, smoke from the burning turmeric should be inhaled. It will increase the discharge from the nose and provide quick relief.

  • Common Cold treatment using Tamarind and Pepper:

    Tamarind-pepper rasam( South Indian Soup) is considered to be an effective home remedy for a cold in South India. As one takes it, the nose and eyes water and the nasal blockage is cleared.
