Summer is almost here and prickly heat or heat rash is one of the common summer problems experienced by everyone. Due to sweat accumulation in certain body parts results in painful and irritating tiny red bumps. Most commonly affected body part includes chest, back, waist and underarms and can affect people of any age group.
Depending on the severity heat rashes persists between 4-5 days to 3-4 months. The good part of these itching prickly heat rashes is that they can be treated with home remedies. Here are few quick home remedies for heat rash or prickly heat rash.
- First and foremost try to avoid scratching as it might increase the risk of infection and also worsen the condition.
- The best way to prevent prickly heat rash is to wear light and cool clothes. Avoid wearing tight fitted clothes, this will allow proper circulation of air and dry the sweat accumulated.
- For immediate relief you can try rubbing an ice cube on the heat rashes. This is considered to be highly effective home remedy for prickly heat rash. Ice cubes are beneficial in reducing inflammation and redness caused due to heat rash.
- Oatmeal powder is another beneficial home remedy for treating heat rashes. Add a small amount of oatmeal in your bathing water, stir well and take a dip in it. Besides soothing your skin oatmeal bath gives fast relief from skin inflammation.
- Make a smooth paste of gram flour and apply it on the affected area and allow it to dry. With the help of cold water wash it off. This home remedy for prickly heat rash removes dead skin and reduces inflammation.
- Mix sandalwood and coriander powder in equal quantities and make a smooth paste with the help of rose water. Apply this paste on the affected area and allow it to dry and then wash it off with cold water. This is one of the effective home remedies for heat rash.
- For fast relief you can even apply powdered dried barks of banyan tree on the affected area.
- Make a smooth paste of 4-5 tbsp of fuller’s earth, plain water and 2-3 tbsp of rose water. Apply this on the affected area and allow it to air dry for at least 2-3 hours, then wash it away with cold water. This is also considered to be effective home remedy for heat rash especially for heat rash on back.
- Take 20-25 fresh leaves of Margosa leaves and grind it to make a fine paste. Apply this paste on the heat rashes and allow it to dry.
- During summers drink lot of limejuice. Limejuice is effective in cooling down your internal heat. Besides that drink lot of buttermilk, water, fresh coconut water, sugarcane juice and fresh fruit juices.
Lastly make sure that you include vegetables and fruits with rich water content like cucumber, watermelon, oranges, etc. in your diet. Before going out in sun dust generous amount of talcum powder on the areas with maximum sweat, this will help in keeping them dry.
