Psoriasis is a very stubborn skin disease. It is a chronic disease where the skin becomes thick, red, silvery and scaled. Psoriasis is not contagious.
Psoriasis occurs when the immune system mistakenly alters the growth cycle of the skin.
There is no cure for psoriasis, but the symptoms can be managed to a large extent.
Here are some natural remedies for psoriasis.
- Avoid eating meat and also diary products, including eggs.
- Avoid processed foods and foods containing hydrogenated fats and white sugar.
- Do not drink caffeine containing fluids, like tea and coffee.
- Go on a juice fast for a week. Use the juices of carrots, cucumbers, beets and grapes.
- Your diet should consist mainly of seeds, nuts, grains, fruits and vegetables. Eat them raw as much as possible.
- Taking Vitamin E has been found to be helpful in reducing itching and scabs. Take doses from 200 to 800 I.U per day.
- Lecithin is a good remedy for psoriasis. Take 2 – 3 lecithin capsules before or after each meal.
- Soap should not be used on the affected area. Sea water baths may help.
- Epsom salt baths can be really helpful. Wash the affected areas with hot water containing Epsom salts twice a week. Apply a little olive oil on the affected area after the bath.
- Expose the affected areas to sunlight frequently. The ultra-violet rays will help reduce symptoms. You can also use a ultra-violet lamp.
- Cabbage leaves can be used as a healing compress on the affected area. Take the thickest and greenest outer leaves of the cabbage. Wash them in warm water and dry with a towel. Make the leaves with flat, soft and smooth by rolling them after removing thick veins. Warm them and place them on the affected area. Put a woolen pad over it and secure it with an elastic bandage.
- Use mud packs on the affected area. Mix clay with a little water and apply. Remove it after it dries out apply a fresh pack. These mud packs absorb toxins from the skin, which are eliminated when the pack is removed.
- Exercise regularly in fresh air. Avoid stress and take adequate rest.
