Natural Remedies for Babies Congestion

Small babies

are more prone to the infections as their immune system is under construction. There are about 200 viruses that can cause cold and cough in the babies resulting in

congestion.

Moreover, toddlers and babies have a habit of touching and licking almost all the time which makes more susceptible to infections.

It is best to consult the specialist (pediatrician) for the cases that need immediate attention. However, in this article we give information on how to deal with less loath situations.

Eucalyptus Bath:

Take warm water in tub and add a few drops of eucalyptus, thyme or sage oil into the bath water. Hold the naked baby in arms and sit in the tub for 10 minutes. The vapors from these essential oils open up baby’s airways. The baby breaths easier and deeper. It also soothes the sore throat.

Herbal Teas:

Another way of using sage and thyme is to make their tea. You can feed normal to warm herbal tea to the baby. But before that it is important to find out with pediatrician at what age you can give the baby these herbal teas and the age related dosages. These teas are effective in clearing mucus out of the baby’s lungs.

Licorice:

Licorice is one of the good natural treatment for cold. It has antibacterial properties which increases the immunity of the baby to fight against the cough causing bacteria. A cup of warm licorice tea can be given to the babies. This soothes the throat and calms the respiratory tract and helps the baby to get good sleep.

Herbal Rub:

Rub on the baby’s chest and back is the one of the effective natural way to relieve congestion in the babies. Take 3 to 4 tablespoons of olive oil and add 2 drops of essential oils to the olive oil. Rub this mixture on the baby’s body.

Humidification:

Humidifying the room is another option to relieve the congestion. Take a few of essential oils like olive oil and run the humidifier in the baby’s bedroom. This will comfort the baby and drift her to sleep.

It is important to breast feed the baby regularly. The breast feeding mother should eat a couple of raw garlic cloves every night before going to bed. This increases baby’s immunity power.
