What is Auricular Therapy
Auricular therapy is also known as
ear acupuncture or auriculotherapy
. This has its origin from France and Lyon. This includes the fundamentals of modern medical science depending upon the neurology and neurophysiology as well as the traditional acupuncture concepts. This therapy is based on the concept that the body is represented as an auricle, that is the external portion of the ear and thus, the body may be treated effectively by stimulating the ear surface.
According to auricular therapy, each area of the ear is associated to various anatomical portions of the body. Human ear consists of numerous points or sites, that react in the presence of injury or disease on other body parts. Hence, application of stimulations on those ear points may cure all the health conditions.
Prior to auricular therapy, the ear is examined thoroughly for performing the therapy, to detect the exact problem on the other body parts. In this procedure, minute electrical pulses or thin acupuncture needles are placed on the acupuncture points on the external surface of the ear for stimulating the ear points. This procedure do not cause any pain and lets the patient to remain comfortable and relaxed.
This therapy is very effective for people who wish to quit smoking and even other addictions, like alcohol and drugs. It can also be used in the treatment of nervous disorders, urinary problems, migraine, indigestion, asthma and arthritis. The duration of the treatment varies based on the seriousness and the disease too.
Though, auriculotherapy is an efficient treatment procedure, it is not recommended for all. Particularly, pregnant women, patients with pacemakers and people following homeopathic treatment are not recommended to follow auricular therapy.
Acupuncture and auriculotherapy do not have any side effects, specifically auricular therapy, that uses electrical stimulation. It is said that ear acupuncture does not have any side effects if the therapist follows the Elector Therapy Association guidelines.
