Licorice is a leguminous plant, glycyrrhiza glabra, which is the native to Southern Europe and certain parts of Asia. It is a perennial herb and is the most popular consumed herbs in the world. It has been used since ancient times by Chinese for more than 5,000 years. The roots of licorice contain a sweet substance that is 50 – 100 times sweeter than table sugar.

Licorice has antioxidant, antiviral, fungicidal and expectorant properties. It also contains sodium, magnesium and phytochemicals to larger extent. There are a wide range of health benefits offered by licorice.

Peptic Ulcers –

Scientific studies revealed that licorice is a very effective drug in treating peptic ulcers. It is the most preferred treatment for peptic ulcers since ancient times in Europe. It produces no side effects like any other drugs used to treat ulcers.

Licorice is effective in treating HIV related disease conditions. It slows down the progression of HIV to AIDS. It stimulates the activity of interferon that will help the body in fighting against the virus.
