Ginger Root – Benefits of Ginger

Ginger root is the edible part of ginger plant and it is actually the stem of the plant. It contains pungent phenol compounds like gingerols and shogaols and volatile oils that made it ideal in treating many medical illnesses. There are many benefits of ginger and is widely used for many herbal medicines.

Intake of Ginger Root

The recommended dosage of ginger root for adults is 4 grams a day. This is not good for children below 2 years of age. The dosage of ginger for various medical illnesses in adults are given below and children above 2 years can be treated with half the amount of adult dosage.

  • For arthritis pains – 2 – 4 grams in the form of fresh ginger tea or juice
  • For gas, indigestion and nausea – 2 – 4 grams i.e 1.5 – 3.0 ml in the form of liquid extract
  • For menstrual cramps, headache, sore throat, cold and flu – 2 tablespoons of ginger concoction, 2 – 3 times a day
  • For vomiting – 1 gram of powdered ginger, 4 times a day
