Ways You Can Obtain Iodine Naturally

How many of us don’t know that Iodine is essential for our healthy living? Iodine is an essential mineral required for the proper functioning of thyroid gland.   • Iodized salt:

The Dietary Reference Intake recommends an average of 150 mcg (micro grams) of iodine for an adult on a daily basis.   • Fish:

    Fish like haddock, shellfish and cod are excellent sources of iodine. Three ounces of baked cod contains almost 66% of the required daily value and fish sticks contain 36%.

  • Seaweeds:

    Seaweeds such as Kelp are very rich in iodine concentration though many people won’t consider consuming it. If you however love sushi, you can combine seaweed with fish to obtain an excellent supply of iodine.

  • Dairy and other products:

    You may not have known this until now. Dairy products such as milk and yogurt can have anywhere between 56 to 70 mcg of iodine. Green and leafy vegetables as well as cereals also contain good amount of iodine. Bakery products such as white bread can contain up to 45 mcg of iodine.

  • Others:

    Other excellent sources of iodine are shrimp (contains 35 mcg) and egg (1 egg can contain 24 mcg). Some home made preparations such as fruit cocktail in concentrated syrup contain 28% of the daily value.
